Do you make marks or notes in your stamp catalogs?

I use Post-Its myself.

I don't normally mark in my Scott catalogue which stamps I possess. I tried it for a couple of smaller countries but decided against doing any other countries because I get a new catalogue every couple of years and don't want to have transfer these marks into the new catalogue.

For me, no marks, ever. I want to be able to pass the catalog along to the next person either by selling or giving it away and this harms the re-sale/giveaway value in my opinion. That said, do whatever helps you organize in the best manner. I have too many stamps at this point to go back and inventory what I have and have never felt like keeping track in this manner. I identify by number, label on a stocksheet or album page and save in a stockbook or mount in an album.

Not in the older books but my postal service guide I do. I use it to keep track of what I have and also, believe it or not corrected some bad information in the book! so yes!

No I do not mark any of my catalogues basically for two reasons:

- when I purchase a new catalogue, I would have to copy all the markings from the older catalogue
- if I have to pass or sell the catalogue to someone else, the markings will certainly affect the condition of the catalogue

Having said that I still keep track of my items as follows:

- I have created a customised database which keeps tracks of all the stamps that I have including all relevant details. Furthermore I created the database to also keep track of any themes related to each stamp. This gives me the opportunity that if I have only one copy of a stamp I can still virtually see it in multiple collections.

- I am also in the process of creating wantlists for some countries in excel format. These come in handy both to send them to other collectors on the internet and also have them handy on my mobile.

Yes, when I lived in the States I would try to keep up with my purchases by ticking them off in the catalogue when I add them to my collection. I turn the tick into an "X" once I've entered the stamp into my inventory spreadsheet (which often didn't get done right away). I live in Thailand now and don't currently own a physical catalogue (just an older edition set of PDF's which just isn't the same). The only thing prohibiting me from buying a new catalogue is an unwillingness to pay US $75 for shipping (not including the duty charges when it arrives). But when I do bite the bullet, I'm considering using some sort of Post-It note system rather than writing in the catalogue.

I also use the Free Mystic's Stamp Catalog for my US Stamps!!! Mark up the book as I actually put stamp into Album!!!
