Are you still on the best Windows system -- Windows XP?

i was on XP but then bought a new computer a few years ago.----- just looked it up ---- Windows 7
i never upgrade anything unless forced to.
I'm not exactly a "Neo-Luddite", but at 70+, with dialup, inertia is a big factor.

Just about every session i have to X out upgrade requests from mozilla, java, microsoft, etc.
i actually upgraded mozilla a year or so ago, then had to go on the internet and download an add-on to replace a needed feature which had been discarded.

Also, my son said I need microsoft because my cannon scanner (lide 70) is only compatible with microsoft. (driver machine code hasn't been made public)
Also, when I lost XP, I also lost many of the scanner functions, such as cropping.

Enough ranting? --- Not yet!

My wife had an old apple computer which she loved -- used it for writing reports with tables, histograms,etc. and insisted on buying an apple product when it finally went belly up. Then I had a very stressful year trying to her get back to square one, till she finally just gave up.

I also remember many years ago one of the secretaries in our company did a multi-month meltdown, then quit, when we changed our word processing program.

Well, I have good news for you...you can try almost any Linux from a 'live' USB stick without taking the final step: Here is a short video, this guy is pretty good and has many tests

BTW if one decides to replace Windows with a Linux Distro on their HD, one must save everything important on an external harddrive as the Linux installation will format the hard drive,

But they are quite safe to try first using the Live USB stick method shown above

Bill Gates died, and found himself outside the Pearly Gates, where St. Peter informed him that although his computer work had certainly qualified him for Hell, his charity work had qualified him for Heaven, so he could chose which he would prefer.

Naturally his first thought was to pick Heaven,but having spent his business life insisting on having full information before making a decision, he asked if he could visit both before choosing. Noone had any objection, so he spent the rest of the day in Heaven. A few people were sitting on clouds in nighties playing harps, but most were just strolling about or sitting in groups indulging in pleasant conversation, interspersed with excellent meals.

The following day he travelled down to Hell, where – to his astonishment – things were not very different. No burning sulphur or eternal torments. Apart from the lack of clouds and harping it was pretty much indistinguisable from Above.

However, having spent most of his time on Earth trying to get to Heaven, he opted for that as preference. But when he returned there and went through the Pearly Gates for all eternity, he was horrified to find utter chaos. People were fighting, arguing and screaming recriminations at each other.

He grabbed a passing angel and asked why things were so different from what they had been the day before.

'Oh,' said the angel. 'Yesterday we were running Heaven XP. But this morning we upgraded to Heaven 7.'
