Self Adhesive Stamps using heptane (not recommended)

I used Bestine (a heptane-based solvent) a few times. The biggest problem is that if you're using it on stamps, you probably aren't outside. Our basement is large and has at least some ventilation. (We have to keep a certain amount of air flow throughout the house because my wife has to be in a fairly strictly climate-controlled environment due to her...uh, neuropathy.) And the stuff still builds up. If I started to feel at all spacey, I managed to fight off the temptation to "just do a couple more". That temptation, and the one that tells you "aaaah, there's plenty of air here, the atmosphere is just full of air", are the two greatest hazards. It's easy to get careless, and the more you inhale, the carelesser you get.

Given the choice between using concentrated orange juice and something that's made of unpronounceable molecules the size of the Isle of Man, I'll go with the oranges any time. The Bestine went out at one of our region's hazmat-disposal festivals. Ms. 'Doves doesn't like the pungent though otherwise harmless scent of Pure Citrus, so my non-water-soluble stamps end up in a bin for me to deal with one of these days.

So yeah, you're absolutely on the right track. I can't think of a single reason why you'd ever want any heptane anywhere near either your stamps or your Stamp Buddy (whose excursions, BTW, I always enjoy reading about).
