My main collecting interest is the Fire Service (stamps, First Day Covers, postcards and slogans). I also collect Birds, Lighthouses, Civil War, Frogs, Rugby and Mills. My country collections are South Africa, Australia and Rhodesia. It never stops adding on. I would consider myself more of a topical collector.

In 1924 and 1925 Great Britain hosted a British Empire Exhibition at Wembley, London. This was the occasion for the first ever issue of British commemoratives - two sets, identical except for the year on the stamp (1924 in one, 1925 in the other). The exhibition was meant to be partly educational, partly to promote trade within the Empire. Bertie Wooster, of P G Wodehouse fame, was not impressed. He commented that "millions of people, no doubt, are so constituted that they scream with joy and excitement at the spectacle of a stuffed porcupine-fish or a glass jar of seeds from Western Australia – but not Bertram," and slid off to a bar to refresh himself. The stamps feature a lion. I like the design. Here is the 1924 set.
