My intention was to not be clear in my response to this thread and show up to surprise everyone. Life however decided to have everything else i wanted line up in such a way as to prevent that from occurring.

As the team is already aware of i am about to leave my current employer and start a new job. Because of this i will not have teh time off available that i had intended to have.

I am Sorry brother i will not be able to attend.

Gosh I have missed much of this thread ! I'm sorry I can't make it for this trip even though we've talked about it so early. Guess I'll have to give Mrs Chex Mix's sushi a miss ! I will be spending those few days in Taipei (my 2nd home) and it means I'll also miss the World Stamp Exhibition which will be held in Singapore this year. Hope you guys have fun and we expect photos !

p.s. my birthday happens to be in Aug too.

Gordon Lee, as you are so far the only one of our members who has stated he may be coming to the APS Stampshow in Grand Rapids, I regret to inform you that the planned gathering at my home will have to be cancelled.

My oldest son starts his sophomore year at Michigan Tech on August 31. He and his housemates have decided to go up to their campus on August 21 in order to move in to their rental house and get settled in before classes starts. This means that I will be leaving with him on Friday, August 21 to help him move in and won't be back until late on August 22. It is an 18 hour drive there and back.

Obviously, you are still welcome to come to Grand Rapids and come to the stamp show. I am now planning on going on Thursday, August 20 and Sunday, August 23 after I have returned. If you are here during that time I would still like the opportunity to meet you and your wife and perhaps meet to have dinner and a drink and visit the show together.

I am sorry that the backyard soiree won't work out but my backyard would not have been the main destination anyway I suspect. Let me know your thoughts on this when you get a chance Gordon Lee.

The only three reasons I made plans for attending the Grand Rapids APS Stampshow was: 1) to meet fellow SBs, 2) a surely grand backyard bbq, and lastly, 3) to pickup any freebies handed out at the show.

Although it would be a great pleasure to met you and Mrs. Checkmix, the absence of any other bears is a downer. And now the soiree has been nixed, I can not see that a 2,000+ mile road trip will be worth any freebies I might score at the show (remember, I do not buy stamps).

As an aside, my darling young bride was not planning to make the trip anyway. Her interest in stamp collecting is about as strong as collecting dead spider legs.

Maybe another gathering can be arranged, I hope.

You might know the guy on the right as tomd and the guy on the left is me, darkormex...we got to spend a good portion of the afternoon together at the 2015 APS Stampshow here in Grand Rapids, MI...I think Tom will concur that we spent way too much money but had a good time and some good conversation with each other and with a few stamp dealers.

I am glad we finally had a chance to meet. Too bad more Stamp Bears members couldn't make it. The show continues through Sunday at 4pm and I plan on going again then. The last dealer we spoke to mentioned heavily discounted pricing on Sunday and I left a few dollars in my wallet to take advantage of that.

This letter of mine turned up on my screen this morning for
some reason today, so I decided to answer it! I didn`t go
to that stamp show for many reasons, but ultimately, I
admitted that my OWN local stamp show rather overwhelms
me, with only 100 frames of exhibits and 30-odd dealers!

I don`t know whether I got this today because you might be
coming to Montreal soon, but I can tell you I`m still here,
and would be very happy to see you, but (just in case that
was in your mind), I`m sorry but my apartment is too full
to support guests.

However, I could guide you around
a bit. Unfortunately, this year is probably not the best for
visitors to Montreal as our traffic system is really disrupted
by traffic problems. The metro works fine though. We are
building a new bridge across the St. Lawrence, re-vamping
a huge highway system and trying to fix ALL our potholes
at once (or so it seems!) We are trying to catch up with
superstructure mends that didn`t happen while Mulroney
was in power. I`d love to meet and see you though!

By the way, two or three of the replies to this thread seem
to suggest that I am male. I`m a sister, brothers & sisters!
