1998 May 20. Centenary of the Pictorial Stamps of 1898
NZ Post brought out a limited number of mini-sheets depicting old issues from the late 1800's. They were only available in year sets so consequently they are rarely available individually. I do have some though.
Here's my very expensive Mount Cook $1.80c sheet - stamp value $45 NZD. Collectable value probably double, and rarely available.
$1.80 Mount Cook (design of 5/- stamp).
1998, May 20. Centenary of the Pictorial Stamps of 1898. Reproductions of the old designs, in new values.
40c Mount Cook and Mount Cook Lily (design of ½d stamp).
40c Lake Taupo and Cabbage Tree (design of 1d stamp).
40c Lake Wanaka and Pembroke Peak (design of 2d stamp).
40c Huia birds (design of 3d stamp).
40c White Terraces at Rotomahana (design of 4d stamp).
40c Kiwi bird (design of 6d stamp).
40c Crown, Polynesian canoe and palm trees (design of stamp).
40c Kea and Kaka birds (design of 1/- stamp).
80c Lake Wakatipu and Mount Earnslaw (design of 2½d stamp showing the original spelling "Lake Wakitipu")
80c Lake Wakatipu and Mount Earnslaw (design of 2½d stamp showing the corrected spelling "Lake Wakatipu")
$1 Otira Gorge and Mount Ruapehu (design of 5d stamp).
$1.20 Pink Terraces at Rotomahana (design of 9d stamp).
$1.50 Milford Sound and Mitre Peak (design of 2/- stamp).
$1.80 Mount Cook (design of 5/- stamp).
Unlike the original issue of 1898, these stamps are scheduled to be printed by the lithographic process; a disappointment considering that the high face value and collector interest in these stamps would possibly result in a retention rate high enough to warrant their production in the more expensive (but more authentic, and also more attractive) intaglio process.
