The margin paper is called selvage (or selvedge, either way) and most collectors like to keep it attached, so the stamps are that much closer to their original state. Also, when the selvage contains distinctive marks, such as plate numbers or color dots (also called traffic lights), as yours do, collectors tend to keep it intact, as that confers a certain uniqueness on that stamp not shared by others from the same sheet. For some classic-era stamps, that selvage will bring added monetary value. For modern stamps, not really.
If you decide to remove it, send it along to khj. He loves the stuff, whether it's attached to stamps or not.
Personally I would keep the selvage intact, it makes the stamp look more distinguished and unique.
As for sending anything to khj, I wouldn't advise that. His house is so full of stamps, he cannot get into certain rooms of his house. I'm just waiting for the day, his wife has enough of it and starts throwing them to the curb. Then I will be there with a truck, to scoop them up.

P.S. -- hallie, nice set of singles showing the cylinder corners. There is no additional value. Some collectors like them, some don't. Most collectors who use pre-printed album pages don't like them because it messes up the layout -- especially if you use hingeless albums.
Whatever you do, do NOT: 1. ...fold the selvedge behind the stamp; I've seen one too many collections where the selvedge stuck to the back of the stamp 2. ...write notes on the selvedge (that is a big NO NO!!! there's plenty of room on the white margin of the stamp to scribble all you want, just don't scribble on the selvedge!!! )
As for me, I collect the stamp, the selvedge (attached or not), and the little bits of chad from the perforations...

Yeah, hinges are an American blasphemy. Most Asians use stockbooks/stockpages. I was raised that way also.
So when I first saw hinges, I almost had a heart attack. They are basically little rectangular pieces of glassine material with water-activated gum on one side. They are usually folded, so you can stick one end to the stamp and one end the album page. Of course, it disturbs the gum on mint stamps. But I guess it is better than using the stapler. So I started using hinges.
Google "stamp hinges" to see pictures of what they look like. If you haven't started using them, don't. They can be addicting, and then you feel guilty about ruining the gum and start to use stamp mounts instead. Then you kick yourself for spending more money on stamp mounts than stamps. It's a road to torture. So save yourself the aggravation and just don't start using hinges.

Longer than I would care to remember. I had the measles when I was a child and in those days were not allowed back in school till they were gone. I found a shoebox of stamps in the attic and haven't stopped since. (minor breaks for various reasons but never really gave it up) Over the years all the little spaces in each room got filled up and the kitchen table was a pain as I had to clean up after an hour or so. Now the kids are out on their own I have this extra room and a corner in the basement. I can leave stuff out and get back to it when I can.
Getting back to the subject of how to store mint stamps,after all of khj foolishness here, I suggest to keep any of your mint stamps with glue, in some type of Vario style stock pages. I get mine from a seller on eBay at a reasonable price. Check it out here.
Also I use mounts if I am putting mint stamps in my album. Here is one of my pages of mint stamps in mounts. Nothing fancy...

wait what?! so the stamp hinges are permanent?! oh dear...
most of my stamps are parts and pieces of each stamp issue... I don't have the full series for the issue so I was thinking of changing the positions after I collect the full stamp series..
The stamp hinges are not permanent, but will disturb the gum on mint stamps. Some hinges will peel off, but just because the brand says "peelable" doesn't always mean they really are easily removed. Some brands (e.g., Dennison) are famous for being easy to remove. Unfortunately, they don't make Dennisons anymore, so remaining stock often sells at 5000% of original price -- how's that for investment?
Almost all of the currently produced hinges do not peel very well, so will leave a torn piece of hinge on the back of the stamp -- or even worse, take a little bit of the back of the stamp off (this is known as a "thin" and is considered a major fault in terms of evaluating stamp damage).
