Thurn & Taxis is not the name of a country but of a Princely House. The field of its postal operations extended to states in both Northern and Southern Germany. In the Northern States the currency was in silbergroschen while in South Germany it was in kreuzer, thus necessitating two series of stamps. The stamps are very elaborate so forgeries are rare but fake cancels and reprints abound
I have noted many "expert collectors" saying T&T forgeries don't exist as the stamps were too complex to forge 1. WRONG - there are less than other states but Fournier and a few others did forge many of the issues 2. Turn & Taxis reprints/forgeries are the biggest issue and the auctions are full of them. Some have a notation ND on the back but many don't or it can be removed A simple way to turn a $5 stamp into a $500 one - so beware of any deals on unused T&T 3. Some reprints have fake cancels applied so having a visual listing of the numeral cancels is a must have for T&T and some other States
