Problem with Forum loading - Discussion!!!

I notice one status message is "waiting for localtimes.."

I also been having problems and a couple of members have pm'd me about it.

I dont know what the root of the problem is and if anyone has a suggestion, please advice.

Loading of ads has been an off/on problem with many ad-supported sites. Usually what happens is some of the submitted ads have trouble loading other stuff, holding up the final display of the webpage. Most of the time, Google will eventually notice the problem and remove the hold-up ads.

TSF pays for ad-free views, which is why you didn't run into that problem over there. I didn't have problems because I have _________, which by default will circumvent ad-loading & image-loading problems.

From Kris, it sounds like there was a change to the system clock widget that was causing problems. I didn't notice because I had temporarily eliminated the SB system clock image on my browser several years ago when they changed the display font on the widget, causing it to expand/contract every second. It was really distracting.

If there are still loading delays, please let us know. It is almost certainly ad/image related, as I haven't experienced delays in my limited visits to SB this week.

OK, I found an old screenshot on my laptop that still had the early system clock. It was below the top navigation blue bar, and I have circled it in red. You had your choice of time zones as well.



This screenshot shows the original clock font. Later, they changed it into something else and the colon separator would change back and forth from compressed to mono-spaced (i.e., causing the digital clock to toggle between contract/expand each second). So I blocked the image, because it was annoying me (I assumed it was Kris who did it). Since I blocked the image, it never processed, so I never experienced the delays you all were experiencing this week.

Blocking images is a habit I've had since my early dial-up days. You'd be surprised how fast pages load when all images are blocked. Nowadays, of course, it's hard to do any online shopping with images blocked, as well as check out stamp pics in the forum. So I've resorted to selectively blocking images on websites that I frequent.

The time widget has been removed because it was causing the loading delays.

Wow that was scary. I couldn't get on-line to stamp bears for a hour.
