It's great you are now able to post the pics.
I want to preface my post by pointing out that I've physically perused many hundreds, if not 100+ collections over the decades. And if you count online viewing of collections, then easily 1000s. I can tell you that meowthekitty's postal card collection is far better than the typical "beginner collection". What I've seen so far, is not even in many intermediate level postal card collections! I'm hoping that if you have the time and a scanner, you start a new thread in the US sub-board and post individual scans of each of your postal cards for us to enjoy (and drool).
Now, getting back to the UX3a. I am 90% sure that your postal card is watermarked USPOD. I can see the straight lines and rounded corners pretty clearly. What I'm not so sure about is the orientation. I was confused at first, until I read that you were using a flashlight. That is also a technique I used for taking pictures. While it works well for clear watermarks, it doesn't work well with large weak watermarks -- elements of the watermark will blur and drop out as you get further away from the center of the beam. But you definitely have a watermark, just not sure of the orientation. Sorry. But, you are free to get an expert opinion (I'm not an expert).
I should have mentioned, you can try contacting the United Postal Stationery Society and see if they give a free opinion, or have a non-certificate society expertizing service.
Your UX5 appear to be unwatermarked to my eye.
Thanks for posting the pics! When I get home later, I'll do some image processing on your UX3 to try to make some of the elements of the USPOD watermark a little more clear.
