Technically Yemeni (Asian) soil, the Socotra archipelago of four isles in the Indian Ocean is considered part of Africa. Much of its flora has an other-worldly appearance, and rightly so, because it's found nowhere else on Earth.
Highlighted here are 'Printer's Waste' items from the production of the seldom-seen postal labels issued for the little-known 1960 Socotra expedition. This expedition was so poorly documented that it would be completely forgotten if not for these labels.
- Not from the '56-58 Oxford expedition.
- Not from the '64-65 RA/AF expedition, which issued no stamps.
The set of three labels is denominated in Shillings and cents (British East Africa currency). The labels were issued gummed and fully perforated. The 2.50 label in pink was not an approved color.
