Seeking United States Album Ideas

I honestly think that you’ll like the Liberty, I know that I do mine. Granted, it has its shortcomings (flimsy paper, crowded pages), but it is a good album for the money. You might want to check and see which version you’d be getting, though, because they are available in both 2-post and 3-ring versions. I chose the 3-ring version because it lies flat when open, but that’s entirely up to you. 

Don’t forget the hole reinforcements if you go with the 3-ring version!

I use a Harris Independence album. I have been slowly replacing pages with my own custom pages over time and most of the newer years are actually Steiner pages instead of custom; I'm too cheap to buy any expansions. The Independence was my first album, it has been cut down to fit a normal sized binder as the binder was shot after many years of use.

I also use a Scott Minuteman album for a mint collection (more recently). My older collection actually has a mix of used and mint both.

It comes in a 3-ring version now. I agree with you on the 2-post thing. I'll do a quick Google search on other sources for the Harris Liberty, but I think Arpin has the best deal at the moment. Will let you know how I make out.

I ended up buying the Liberty. I seem to have been mistaken, though: the one I'm getting (and others I've seen advertised) are of the 2-post variety, though the pages are set up for 3-ring binders, too.

I'm hopeful that this will be my last major philatelic expense for a while. Hubs has been looking askance at me.

I started with a Scott National Album but the supplements (back in the 90's) were getting expensive. You often had to move stamps from older to newer pages as well.

After an attempt to make my own pages, I moved to Mystic because I liked the price, one side design with information on left. and 3 ring lay flat design. The proprietary Scott (Harris as well) seemed restricting. My interest was mint so blocks was not an issue. This all changed when the USPS started issuing self-adhesives. Booklets became a problem. After seeing Andy P's Mystic modifications, I ended up modifying well over 100 pages to customize.

This really made collecting fun as it broke the barrier of just dealing with Scott defined collectibles (Mystic follows Scott). Creating pages helps you learn about issues - not just filling spaces.

The net is I had flexibility to have the option to create my own pages if I used a 8.5x11 format. I use Steiner worldwide for the same reason.  You can insert Hanger / Vario type pages as well.

Now if you buy a new Mystic album you will find you need more binders.

What do you folks think of DAVO for US? Am considering these albums on clearance to supplement my Harris Liberty, which goes up to 1994.
