Trying Out Something With SeeMyStamps.......................

I haven't moved the images already uploaded to SMS yet. That I want to make sure I get that right for obvious reasons. It's only images going forward that are being uploaded to the new server right now. But if it's faster so be it.
As far as the URLs, I don't think that will be a problem. If I'm not wrong, the link we use on Stamp Bears is "assigned" by Chevereto. Chevereto takes the file location URL and redirects it to the assigned link. It's like magic.
Whenever I transfer the images already at A2 to Backblaze I have to do some editing to the database and just tell it who the new server is. Chevereto does the rest.

crazyquilter, it's really all Phil's work and expense. I just hang around and point out some obscure technical issues, to keep him busy and out of trouble!


I believe what Chevereto does, is similar to what the other image hosts do -- they will redirect automatically as long as you paste "Image Link". That link, if I am not mistaken, will never change because it gets redirected internally at Chevereto (i.e., simple internal pointer change, transparent to the user).

However, the "Image URL" (which is what I use), is hard coded to the actual server/location. If the server address changes, the link will go dead.

Basically, I will simply need to change my ways and start using "Image Link" instead of "Image URL".

Some may ask, why does dumb-dumb use "Image URL", when "Image Link" is the first option and typically what most others use. For 2 main reasons:
1) original filename is embedded in the "Image URL", which allows me to quickly identify which pic on my hard drive
2) because it is a direct link, it bypasses the image host navigation page.

I always embed my images in posts as clickable links. Historically, I've preferred using "Image URL" because when you click on the image, it bypasses the image host navigation page and directly shows the enlarged image. The user never knows what image host is being used, unless you look at the URL in your browser. To me, that's a cleaner transition. Plus, it automatically bypasses all the advertising.

If I use "Image Link" to embed pictures in my post -- when I click on the picture, it fits the image into a frame that includes the image host navigation window. You then have to click again, to fully enlarge the picture.

To see the difference, you can go to your own SMS page, choose one of your pictures, then copy "Image URL" and paste into a new browser tab, then copy "Image Link" and past into another new browser tab. You should be able to see the difference.

But it shouldn't be a problem for me to change from using "Image URL" to "Image Link" in the future. Hopefully, anyway, as I tend to be a creature of habit.

I will test using "Image Link" sometime this week, to make sure the clickable picture link works as I intended. I may also need to peruse the image posting instruction threads, in case there are references to using "Image URL" instead of "Image Link".

Phil, if you have time. See if you can make a post on Stamp Bears with a clickable link pic that does not contain any reference to the BackBlaze server. I realize there is no problem on SMS, but I can't seem to do it on SB. This may be a ProBoards issue.

Yes. I should be able to make a clickable picture in a post, so that when I click on the picture, it will show only the image in a new tab (i.e., no SMS landing page, I get only full-size image). Normally, this is accomplished by only using "Image Link" option, where the URL is a pointer address internal to SMS.

Basically, I'm trying to use only the "Image Link" URL and not the "Image URL" URL (which will have either the SMS or BB2 server hard-encoded in the URL).

This may be a moot discussion, as it appears the problem is with ProBoards.

Here is an example. I am just posting the picture (they are not clickable). If I simply use the "Image Link" URL and the ProBoard insert image option, I don't get the image, only an image placeholder (see below):


The BBCode appears correct. ProBoards simply won't interpret it! But if I use "Image URL" it works (see below). But I'm trying to avoid the hard-encoding in the "Image URL".

I will check. I'm pretty sure I have hotlinking disabled in my entire account.
