The Value of the Specialized Stamp Catalog

To know me is to understand that I am a lover of books...I like to read, I like the feel, the heft, the cover, smell...just about everything about books. I am not a prude to technology, don't get me wrong...after all I own a Kindle as well but I still actively buy books and would prefer to read one over my kindle.
The same applies to stamp catalogs. Despite the fact that the Scott Catalogs are so big and inconvenient, I would still rather check them out of the library and bring them home than to bother with an on-line catalog or stamp catalogs on cd.
More interesting to me are the catalogs of other countries, especially countries I actively collect. While I have been putting together the pages for my Hong Kong collection I have been referencing a catalog I purchased in Hong Kong in 1997. Yang's Stamp & Coin Co. publishes a number of specialized catalogs of China and area that are extremely useful to a specialized collector. These catalogs were published with color pictures of stamps and specialized treatment well before the larger, international catalogs like Stanley Gibbons and Scott.
We went to Hong Kong about a year after we were married, and, of course, I had to drag my wife to Yang's Stamp & Coin in Tsim Sha Tsui....the storefront was great too and I bought a lot of stamps while I was there. The catalogs I have now are obviously outdated but useful nonetheless.
