Every once in a while a stamp or stamps catch my eye...maybe because of the design, maybe the color or maybe the subject. One of these was the stamp that is now my avatar, Czechoslovakia Sc. 2754. This stamp was issued as part of a set of 4 in 1989 celebrating that year's winners of the Biennial of Illustration in Bratislava, a city now in Slovakia. Biannually, awards are given to international illustrators of children's books and a set of stamps is issued and has been since 1971.
More information is included on the wikipedia entry for the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava as well as the homepage for the Biennial which is BIBIANA site. The homepage is in Czech language but if you look carefully in the upper right hand corner there is a little flag of the UK which when clicked on, will give you the English language version of the site. The BIB History gives an excellent overview of the competition and it's history.
At any rate, I think the stamps are really attractive as are many of the Czechoslovakian, Czech Republic and Slovakian stamps and this thread is devoted to these stamps.
