Mesopotamia - located in western Asia, bounded on the north by Syria and Turkey, on the east by Persia (Iran), on the south by Saudi Arabia and on the west by Trans-Jordon.
During WW I, This territory was occupied by Great Britain. It was recognized as an independent state and placed under British Mandate but in 1932 the Mandate was terminated and the country admitted to membership in the League of Nations as the Kingdom of Iraq. Postage stamps of Iraq are now used.
In 1918-20, a set of 14 overprinted Turkey stamps were issued. (Turkey Scott# 256, 258-269)
