The Football World Cup with added weightlifting

Well, nothing too wrong with that. But amazingly they don't seem to have sold like hotcakes; because when the 1970 Association Football Cup came round they still had an awful lot of them left. Waste not, want not. So instead of creating new soccer-based ones, they merely scored out the old text and replaced it with Football.

To be fair, the World Cup was also in Mexico so one of the four designs remained appropriate, but the others must represent the only stamps ever to commemorate Football with pictures of athletes, weightlifters and wrestlers. (Incidently two of the depicted weightlifters appear to be using dumbbells, which were last used in the Olympics in 1904!)

If at first it doesnt sell, just overprint it and try to sell it later....

They must have printed a pot load of them, to have enough to overprint years later.

General De Gaulle has died. Quick, let's put his name on a stamp showing the Teheran Conference featuring Roosevelt, along with Stalin and Churchill and ... well, not De Gaulle, but never mind.

 ..... except perhaps a MS featuring Abraham Lincoln who spookily died EXACTLY 112 years 4 months and 27 days before the foundation of the UN?

Finally dug this out - knew I had it somewhere. SG1 used on cover. Stuck on crookedly. On a postal envelope originating at Manama PO, unlike the later ones which came from Ajman. Cancelled with the original (and in my opinion the only genuine) handstamp of Manama PO. No registration mark, which appear on the vast majority of the philatelic issues. The addressee is a named individual - though I cannot guarantee he was not a collector. NOT a first day cover. Looks about as genuine as you can get to me.
