Here's 1 of the auction lots I won at my stamp club meeting. Some early Germans issued from 1900-1916. I haven't identified them yet so not sure the Scott #s right now. The second stamp is what caught my eye while looking over the different lots. I've never seen one with a hole punched threw it like this one.... could be from a kid, production, or being cancelled... who knows. If anybody does, please let me know

I was looking at all the cancels on each stamp and wondering why the postal clerk was so happy to cancel each stamp multiple times.

Often wondered about that myself.

I can help but I would need larger scans of each stamp, perf hole counts (25:17 or 26:17), and watermarks.

The stamp with the hole could mean it was used for something other than postal use, maybe telegraphic or some such.

I also believe the early German stamps were normally postmarked twice as a form of ensuring the stamps couldn't be used again. This was done by joining the un-postmarked part of two stamps together.

In fact the more expensive stamps without more than one postmark should probably be looked upon as suspicious.

Hopefully some else here will have some more info incase I have got something wrong.
