Hi everyone, I thought I would share my Newfoundland airmails. Some of the Newfoundland airmails are among the rarest in the world. Unfortunately I don't have any of those, but I do have these:
First up are the Scott C2a & C3b items. The Alcock & Brown flight was an attempt to be the first trans-atlantic flight from North America to Europe. They took off on June 14th, 1919 and crossed into Ireland on the next day. 10,000 of these stamps were printed but I believe only about 196 covers were actually carried on the flight. Here is a wikipedia link about that flight
The 2nd stamp was for the first flight from Botwood to Halifax Nova Scotia on 12/10/1921. This flight did not go smoothly, as the aircraft broke down after 2 hours. The next day the pilot was injured in trying to restart the engine. The mail did not actually reach Halifax until 2/3/1921 by train. Probably one of the longest airmail journeys in history. I will post more of my airmails in a day or two.
