Seeing no way to reply on the "New Member" thread it seems I have to create my own?
My name is Mitchell and I live on 70 acres in the rolling, wooded hills North of Lawrence Kansas. I have been collecting the stamps of the world since 1958, with a hiatus from the mid 60's to late 80's. My father who also collects got me interested in stamps. I was also much inspired in my youth by the great American Philatelist and childhood neighbor Herman "Pat" Hearst. In 1988 I realized that the stamp market had taken a big hit and prices were way down from where they had been in previous years. Never haven lost my love for stamps I realized that I could now afford most of the stamps I had only dreamed about having when I was a kid. So I preceded to start up again with a goal of completing as much of the world as I could. Since that time my collection has grown to over 160 volumes with a stamp count of around 330,000 different.
About 12 years ago, I started to scan my pages and put them up on a website that hopefully would benefit other collectors. At present I think it is safe to say that my site shows more different classic world wide stamps from more countries than any other site on the web. My main interests are the United States, Western Europe and Latin America plus a few other countries. I do not collect dunes or wallpaper nations as well as independent African countries. I collect mint or used because collecting one or the other greatly reduces the chance of completing or nearly completing most countries. I am not rich by western standards, actually live around the poverty level. My house is paid for and I have very low overhead so every extra nickle I get goes towards the collection. For the last 37 years I have spent an average of at least 8 hours a day on my collection. Besides having my collection scanned I also have needlists for most countries that are easily viewable on the web. This greatly helps me to quickly search the weekly auction I get my stamps from and get the best deals, I can, for whatever is being offered that week.
I collect primarily on Scott specialty pages and have around 90% of the world on them. For countries I have not been able to find Specialty pages for or for newer issues I use Bill Steiners formats to print my own.
I'm most happy to help with identification and sharing info.
I have probably over a million duplicates so I usually have something to trade. If you see something missing from my collection that you have extras of, I would probably be interested in trading. Part of the stamps I have that are available for trade can be seen here: stamps2go.com/listing.aspx?sellerid=antoniusra
My collection site main page can be seen here: mitch.seymourfamily.com/mward/collection/mapindex.html
The country A-Z index here: Antonius-Ra.com
Happy Stampin,
Mitchell
