In case anybody is interested, the problem is known as the brachistochrone problem:

To find the curve connecting two points, at different heights and not on the same vertical line, along which a body acted upon only by gravity will fall in the shortest time.

And for those of you who have finished sorting, cataloging, and mounting all your stamps -- feel free to try to solve the problem on your own.

Time to beat in solving on your own is Newton's time of 12 hours.
