When Albert Frederick Arthur George ascended the throne on May 12th, 1937 (intended for his brother, King Edward VIII who abdicated on December 11th 1936). Albert assumed the regnal name "George VI" to emphasise continuity with his father and restore confidence in the monarchy. He was obviously unprepared and infuriated; he had a noticeable stammer and preferred his privacy.
Nevertheless he became King George VI and the reign of the third crowned King officially began. On the morning of February 6th 1952, George VI was found dead in bed at Sandringham House in Norfolk, United Kingdom. He had died from coronary thrombosis in his sleep (a blockage of the flow of blood to the heart, caused by a blood clot in a coronary artery) at the age of 56. His daughter flew back to Britain from Kenya as Queen Elizabeth II.
The specialised collection from the reign of His Majesty, King George VI is 85% complete.
