Ok, I havw some ideas myself, but it's good to hear what others do and recommend and don't recomend.
I have been collecting on and off since before I started school (1970). Compare to what I have seen on some of the members pictures on this board I don't have very much. But I have enough to make a mess
It's about 8-10 years since last time I was into stamp collecting. Since then I have moved and was close to sell all my stamp's, but delayed it (phuh) because I had to tidy it up before sale. But I did trow away old catalogues and some other stuff.
Well, now I'm in a new house, kids are out and I'm about to make a "Stamp Cave" (will come back with a making a stamp cave tread when finish with it)
I have Lighthouse albums for Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and Sweden. Duplicates from those countries I keep in stock books. Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark I have stock book with 1 half line pr issued stamp. With the corresponding number (Norgeskatalogen, Facit or Michel) so I can easily find or see the duplicate stamp. This system I also have for Italy and Spain duplicates.
Hungary and Italy I have on self printed pages (Steiner (Hungary) and an Italian album maker for Italy) I hoped I had all the Steiner pages for Spain, but I can't find them all now, might be in some moving boxes that I have not gone trough yet.
So these countries I have reasonable control over. But what with the rest? They are in mixed stock books, envelopes, small boxes and .... you get it.
I want to keep one example of every stamp i have and set the duplicates for exchange or sale. I understand I cant download (steiner or other) and print every country in the world, I have to have a reasonable amount before I can print album pages. I also understand the making it all (album pages) myself is a lot of work.
So I think of keeping the stamps in stock books that I have a good lot of. But I need to organise them so I easily can find them. If I make a list (spread sheet)of countries (that I have stamps for)for each continent, and give the stock book a code or a number It might work. The countries don't have to be put alphabetically, because the spreadsheet will tell me what book to look into, and maybe what page from. So the code for Tanzania could be AF02-5. AF02= Africa, stockbook 02 and 5 indicates that Tanzania start at page 5. Will this work?
The problem I see with this is that I must have two systems, one for keep and one for duplicates?? Need solution on this.
What stamps I have I register on colnect.com, easy to se what I have and how much I have if I bother to registrate that. ( I understand why Scott users don't appreciate this side since Scott don't aloud use of their number system)
I would love to hear you thought's on this, your solutions and so on ...
