So by definition a perfin is a postage or revenue stamp perforated for security purposes with a series of holes in the shape of a design or initials.
While used simultaneously a perforated insignia is more specifically the actual holes used.This becomes important to those that specialize in the different dies used.Many companies used different dies at different locations which allows more complete identification of the exact stamp being examined.
in the following posts I will show the stamps residing in my meager holdings.I do not specialize in these but more broadly collect them.
For each stamp there are technically eight different ways they can be positioned in the perforator which means eight different stamps of the same design that can be recognized.
There is obviously a rarity factor for certain company design depending on many things but as you can imagine these would be,the length of time used the size of the company.etc.
They are not readily available and market wise have become trading at over catalog for used stamps.Not long ago these were often offered at the same price as an unperforated stamp of the same design.
