Hello all. Meow has some used envelopes with stamps on them in Meow's postal stationery collection. Meow is just a bit peeved that some issues have so many variant Scott numbers, and are very difficult to figure out which one it is. Meow in this instance is referring to the 3 cent Washington Scott #64,65 etc. The non-grilled ones. How can one tell what color an item is after aging over 100 years. Like how some very old less than pristine envelopes can be hard to tell white from amber, or cream from amber, or manila from a stained white. When it comes to envelopes the only colors Meow can be absolutely sure about are blue and orange. Meow has been wanting some advice on this ever since Meow has a few examples of that 3 cent stamp. Meow will try to assemble a array from this Cat's collection to show how many shades of red or brown there seems to be.
... #499 is "rose" but not unambiguous ... OK, 60 years later ... Either #561 or # 590 or #641, the 9-cent Jefferson stamps, are listed as "rose" ... so if you have either of those stamps in your collection, you can compare to see if are close to that color .... still searching for a "pink" .... I am in 1939 and wondering whether the only guy who knew how to mix pink ink died in 1861.
