khj , I enjoyed looking at these. I thought the writeups were good concise introductions - more substance than you usually get in 3 or 4 pages. I had some varied responses to the works by the indigenous artists, but at least they have indigenous artists. And that wood carving from Guinea is something else again.
As a collector, I've always stayed away from ornate presentation packages. I even stayed clear of FDCs because in the 1970s they got swept up in the "make millions of dollars in collectibles!!" schemes. But this UNICEF book is one of the very few I would have at least considered buying just because it's good.
Glad you enjoyed looking at them. I agree, normally the first thing I do is pull out the stamps and FDCs and then recycle everything else. But this was really better written than most "1-2 paragraph" single page souvenirs. After I finish scanning them... but I haven't decided. Need to finish scanning them first. It's a lot -- 10 volumes.
