The beloved founding father of our local stamp club recently crossed the Acheron. He is dearly missed. Bob Quintero was a Navy man who lost his right thumb in WWII. In the 1950s, he founded the Motor City Stamp & Cover Club. Bob was our link to the USPS mail boat J. W. Westcott (exclusively zip code 48222), for which he designed cancellation devices and cover cachets over several decades.
I would like to create some covers as a tribute to Bob. I have an idea for the graphics, but I can barely draw stick men myself, so I have to ask:
Is anyone here able to draw up a quick sketch so we can make Bob's covers? I can repay by Embassy Plague Mail with wonderful philatelic things.

Super, TYBM. I have in mind something suitable for envelope cachets, or maybe on a mug. Considering that Bob was a Navy man, and the prime sponsor of our Mail Boat (here on the Detroit river), and since he just crossed the Acheron River, and he's lost his right thumb, in view of all that, this is the pic I'm seeing:
A straight-on view of the back of the J.W. Westcott (it looks like a tug boat) taking Bob across the river, with Bob waving at you from the back railing (you can tell it's him cuz he's waving with his right (4-fingered) hand. I think some Navy recognition would be appropriate. Maybe an anchor tattoo on his arm or t-shirt, or maybe a Navy t-shirt, something like that. And there should probably be mail pouches (or even mail PAILS in the case of the Westcott, since they service ships under-way). Bob was a tall skinny Caucasian guy with a long face and spectacles.
I'd love to see what you can do with all this, and thanks so much,
Well, I'm not very pleased with how this turned out, it seems to require more talent than I have to get this to look professional, but what do you think so far?
Very impressive zepherusbane! I’d give anything if I could do something like that but there’s not an artistic bone in my body.

I got a copy, no problem. There's a diagonal white line down the boat at the left. Is that part of the image, or is it fixable? Or did I miss the part where we could fish off the Westcott Other than that, this is above and beyond what I imagined, great work!
Is there a way to give this image a blue tint? My son gave me Photoshop, but life has been too busy for me to even begin to try to figure out how to work it just yet.
Well, I'm not sure, but I can probably figure out a way to do that. Can you send me the last updated file or tell me what font you used for the new version you created? I'll check it out. I no longer have Adobe Photoshop, although I used that for many years. I use GIMP now. I have found that most things you could do in Photoshop can also be done in GIMP, sometimes it's harder, but not usually.
Incidentally, I have a full-color version of this too in case you were interested, I just converted it to make it look more like a line drawing (I thought an old school black and white cachet was a good fit based on your description of the man).

I got to thinking dark blue would have more of a naval feel to it. I know a few tricks to try, I just thought there might be a quick fix. Either way, I'll make sure you get a digital copy of the final image.
