Coastwatcher’s Rhodesia Collection

The only stamp that I need to complete Southern Rhodesia is the Scott #J5a (SG #D6) color error of the 4d value. They aren’t particularly hard to find, but generally start around $400. I may try to get one by the end of the year, though.

I have it on my wish list as well. It is not so much an error of colour as it is a question of having overprinted stamps in the old and new colours. In 1951, the UK's GPO changed the colour of its postage stamps for use on international mail to comply with UPU regulations. On 14 August 1951, the dull grey-green 4d Postage Due stamp issued in 1937 was replaced by one in a blue colour. Sheets of the old and new stamps were overprinted. When this was discovered, the stock of grey-green stamps was withdrawn and destroyed.

This set was issued on 1 October 1951, some 6 weeks after the stamp in the new colour had been issued in the UK.

Rhodesia and Nyasaland on Palo hingeless pages.

Here is my post-UDI (1965-1980) Rhodesia collection on Palo hingeless pages.

My primary interest is Southern Rhodesia but, due to the fact that they were once politically united, I plan on getting the Palo pages for Nyasaland and Northern Rhodesia before year’s end. Though I have quite a few of the stamps needed to fill these pages, they will in no way be complete and will require some work.

As far as my British South Africa Company/early Rhodesia collection goes, I still have much work to do. I try to add to it as often as I can and, as the pages slowly start to fill in, I will post occasional updates. It will, however, be a long term project due to expense and the fact that I’m working on quite a few different collections simultaneously (see list at the bottom of my posts).
