Every now and then you run into something that just doesn't fit into your brain's hoard of references. Sure, there's probably a perfectly logical explanation for the thing, you just can't imagine what it might be. This is the place to put those things, a curio cabinet of sorts. Who knows, one of your Bear friends may know the story behind it. I'll start out with a couple of my favorite pieces.
Spanish post card & stamp, New York City cancel, Christmas Eve 1929
This, you see with letters posted on board ships. The ship might have sailed from Spain and arrived in New York on Christmas Eve, where the stamp was cancelled. Usually, there would be some cancellation, like "PAQUEBOT."
Or the inspector in New York was found the Spanish cancellation was not clear enough and applied the cancellation upon arrival in New York.
Likely, the clue is in the part rubber stamp across the top of the frank. My guess is the second explanation is what happened.
