Although I already had a mint copy, I bought this Newfoundland Scott #226 for 9 cents this morning on an online auction because of the “Brigus” on it. I know that Brigus is a city in Newfoundland, but don’t know if this is a cancel or some type of overprint. I’m just now really starting to get into Newfoundland and haven’t seen a cancel like this on any of the used stamps that I have. Also, the purple color is throwing me off. So, is it a cancel or some type of overprint?
