To Unhinge or Not to Unhinge: That Is the Question

Some family members think I've been unhinged for some time.
Nevertheless, here is my question: When transferring hinged stamps to a new binder, do you go to the trouble of completely removing the old hinges first?
"Old Me" wouldn't have bothered, but "New Me" has started to become a bit more particular about stamp condition. Plus, I was recently introduced to a new-to-me method of soaking off hinges in hot soapy water, which works amazingly well. (A side benefit is that it seems to freshen the appearance of the stamps.)
