Let's make my reply simple and to the point...

You can legally view/download the 2017 edition for free, directly from Stoneham website: The Stoneham Catalogue of British Stamps 1840-2016

Just for the record, I do have a print version of the catalog.

BTW youpiao, one of the things I like about the Stoneham is that is illustrates each cover & stamp pane for the prestige booklets: 2017 Stoneham Prestige Books and Panes

However, they don't illustrate every single page (i.e., non-stamp text pages not shown).

The primary advantage of SG is the numbering system since it is most used outside the US. 

Indeed, it is basically a fully illustrated catalogs, and has a couple of specialty sections not found in SG Concise. Agreed, that £5 price was fantastic, but I assumed that was not postpaid to US so didn't bother ordering it. I already had an older thinner edition.

It's useful reference, but I don't use it for my main collection much because Stoneham separates the officials and puts them at the end of each reign in the regular listings. While that's useful if you collect according to reign, it's not practical for me since I collect all reigns. On the other hand, they don't group other stamps according to reign, such as postage due. Granted, postage due stamp sets will cross-over reigns. But I find it annoying, and prefer all the officials together.

My perspective is, if you are going to collect a specific reign, you will inevitably end up using either one of the SG Specialised GB volumes or one of the SG Commonwealth specific reign catalogs (e.g., KGVI). So my Stoneham usually just sits on the shelf or on my archive hard drive until I need to fish out specific info.

It's funny how little things like this can annoy us so much! 

As khj knows well, the QV officials are on page 25 & 26 and the KEVII officials are on pages 36 & 37.

In contrast, I'd prefer it if SG adopted in its Commonwealth country listings the approach it uses in its foreign catalogues of blending the officials, postage dues, postal tax etc. stamps in the main listing in date order...

(However, I'm sure there would be uproar if SG adopted this!  )
