Perforations what may have been.

Whilst sorting out some Machin's I came across a small note next to 2 stamps from a conversation at Harrison & Sons printers, basically it states that a Mr York of Harrison's discussed with a Mr Benjamin company unknown, the process of perforating gum Arabic stamps by the "Lawnmower" process mainly the se-tenant coil strips, however they discussed that circular perforation are no means the most efficient, and we may see diamond shaped perforations in the near future which have proved most suitable under test conditions.
I would guess this to be early 70's, but wonder why after testing and saying that it's more suitable they kept with circular perfs? Obviously in the past and present printers waste comes on the market but I have never seen any UK stamps or testing samples with the diamond perfs on the edges, so obviously something must have either been rejected by the PO or it just failed to catch on,who knows
