Special Parcel Post Service early 1900s

When 5 year old May Pierstorff's parents wanted to send her to visit her grandmother in 1914, they were taken aback by the cost of the train fare.  They noticed that there was nothing in the parcel post regulations prohibiting sending a young person through the mail so they pinned 53 cents in parcel post stamps to May's coat and put her in the mail car of the train going to Lewiston. She was delivered to her grandmother by the train mail clerk.
