Would you use individual stamps from miniature sheets for postage?
I am a letter writer, snailmail addict. I send therefore I receive. I also manage a letter writing/correspondence forum called A World of Snail Mail. I sometimes post pictures on Instagram (username morgaine_does_snail_mail) Stamp themes - science, nature, postal history, maps, nice stamps.
Probably not. Just thinking long-term. As time passes, fewer should exist...even if it takes a hundred or so years. Eventually, someone might appreciate it that it survived. On the other hand, I wouldn't be opposed to using a sheet that has had a large production run if it is a recent issue. Sometimes a postmark (non-CTO) contemporary to the issue date is interesting, especially when it is still on the cover.
I have used singles from a souvenir sheet in the past and I have used the entire sheet. It depends on what I need to send or what someone is asking for.
From a philatelic and postal history perspective sometimes the only way to get a proper usage of an issue is to use a single from a souvenir sheet.

I have used singles from a souvenir sheet in the past and I have used the entire sheet. It depends on what I need to send or what someone is asking for.

i am with alyn on this one. at times you just need too and if the recipient really wants them used sometimes its the only way.

No! definitely no. It destroys the value of the stamps or the sheet. If I need stamps for postage the P.O. sells modern (Definitive) stamps without breaking up a sheet that is only worth face value. I wouldn't even break up a plate block for just one stamp. That's just my opinion.

I was once given a partial sheet of minis, so there was no choice about whether it was broken up or not, so I put them in groups of four in my Bourse - at the bargain price of 10c for four stamps. Some poor unlucky sod will be left with only three stamps for ten cents, but I haven`t noticed anybody lining up for the privi- lege of getting FOUR for 10c, so I imagine the three will be among the last to go!
Here is an example of why one would want to use a single from a souvenir/mini sheet:
Above is the 2010 Art Canada Souvenir Sheet (scott 2396) issued on July 2. It contains a 57 cent domestic rate and $1.70 International rate stamp. The only way to get a used copy of the international rate stamp is to separate it from the sheet. For collectors of used stamps, sometimes the only way to get them is to remove them from sheet.

I still think I`d be happier to keep the $1.70 stamp intact in its S/S. I`d even design a special page for it in my album!
If the souvenir sheet was mailed like the one above, absolutely keep it intact, but if someone wanted the $1.70 one I would remove it and send it. The reason I used the souvenir sheet I did, was the $1.70 value was only available in the souvenir sheet.

When it comes to souvenir sheet stamps, I still prefer to collect a postally used copy of each stamp from the sheet AND a copy of the sheet either used or mint.
I would not hesitate to break up a sheet and often will buy more than one just for that purpose.

It depends, but in the past, I've had up to 200 of a particular souvenir sheet that I couldn't get rid of. I think it might have been the U.S. CiPEX, or the FIPEX Liberty sheets. Anyway, I needed postage and said the heck with it, and used what I needed. For sure there are some who would slap me across the noggin for doing this, but why not? I remember some of the earlier publishers included spaces for singles of the Franklin and Washington sheets in their albums.
As we speak, I have 50+ left from a lot of 107 SIPEX 5-cent souvenir sheets that I've had for years and am still cutting up to use on regular envelopes when I need a 5-cent stamp, or if I can, I use the entire sheet on 6x9 envelopes when I mail something out.
Yep, in some cases, I use the souvenir sheet stamps. But that's me.
